We've all done things in private we wouldn't necessarily like the rest of the world to know about. But we don't all take photos.

Spare a thought, then, for the female banker who was mortified Thursday when her boss, and several of her work colleagues, received an e-mail which included photos of her committing a private act on a male partner. The e-mail also contained a weblink to a site on the internet where the pictures were displayed for all who cared to see (the website now appears to have been disabled). A blind copy of the e-mail was also forwarded to us at HereIsTheCity and the firm's own media relations team.

On grounds of good taste, we are not prepared to identify the London-based banker concerned, or the firm she works for (although it is a well-known investment bank). The e-mail was sent to the banker herself and her boss Thursday lunchtime. At least 30 other firm staff were cc'd in. Several of the staff apparently deleted the mail without reading it (thinking it was just junk). Others will have seen the pictures. The firm's IT department were soon alerted and acted quickly, zapping the mail centrally from the system and blocking access to the weblink.

Extremely upset, the banker was allowed to go home and is not thought to have turned up for work Friday. It remains unclear what motivated the callous e-mailer to send out the photos, although there is speculation that the sender could have been a former boyfriend of the banker featured in the pictures. The firm has launched an investigation, and is concerned to establish whether anyone inside the organisation was involved. It is not known whether the police have been called in at this stage.

A spokesperson for the firm told us that 'this is a private matter involving an e-mail sent from a bogus account outside the company by an unidentified source. The individual concerned is naturally extremely distressed by this and we are doing everything we can to support them. We continue to investigate the circumstances of how this e-mail came into the bank and have no further comment'.
