The banker are taking part in the fourth annual I'm a Banker...Get Me Out of Here event in aid of Little Havens Children's Hospice. The men and women, from countries including Dubai, Switzerland and Ireland, have been sponsored by friends, family and colleagues to spend the weekend of the 8th and 9th March renovating parts of the hospice. This also happens to fall in the week Little Havens is celebrating its 10th Birthday.
Around 70 bankers from institutions such as Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse and RBS will be taking part and will be staying over in the Thundersley grounds in a giant marquee. The previous three events have raised over $520,000 - enough to pay for nine full-time Little Havens nurses for one year.
The driving force behind I'm a Banker is Roberto de Cristofano. The 41 old works for Deutsche Bank in London. Roberto says, 'Each year this event just gets bigger and bigger. The bankers all said they had great fun and satisfaction from helping such an amazing cause. As the charity relies almost entirely on voluntary donations, we can help by giving our time for free and sprucing up the hospice to make it as nice as possible for the children and families staying there'.
Little Havens is the children's hospice for Essex and will be celebrating its 10th Birthday throughout March. In that time, Little Havens has cared for over 1,000 life-limited children plus provided vital support to their families and siblings. Little Havens - part of Havens Hospices - will cost $4.2 million this year to continue caring with limited funding from the UK government.
