The Globe & Mail reports that Matthew MacIsaacs, one of Canada's most highly-regarded fund managers, was one of 33 folks caught out in a drugs sweep dubbed 'Project White Rabbit', when he was arrested in a Toronto bar on March 16th. The fund manager has now been charged with buying drugs from an undercover police detective and conspiracy to traffic cocaine.

MacIsaacs, from MM Asset Management, denies the charges. His lawyer said: 'He (MacIsaacs) is a good man. I'm afraid that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that police made a sweep and arrested everybody in the place. Of course, we are going to defend him vigorously'. The bar where the bust went down is said to have been on police radar screens since a young person died of an overdose there earlier in the year.

When police questioned MacIsaacs on the night of his arrest and asked him to explain how come he had $590 in cash on him, he simply replied: 'I'm a hedge fund manager'.
