The former hedge fund trader filed a discrimination lawsuit against his firm last year, claiming that his ex-boss encouraged him to take female hormone tablets (which Tong says he had to obtain on the black market) to tone down his aggression. According to Tong, however, there were unfortunate consequences (or side-affects). He alleges that the tablets put him off sex (not good at a time when his wife was pushing to have a baby), and resulted in him starting to wear women's clothing. Tong even claims that he began a sexual relationship with his (male) boss!
SAC Capital, a powerful $10bn hedge fund, always denied the allegations, and were miffed when the US Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) started to sniff around the firm, interviewing dozens of its employees to get to the bottom of the allegations. The EEOC has now completed its investigation, and has issued Tong with a notice which basically says that it could find no evidence of wrongdoing. The trader is apparently continuing with his lawsuit, but must now do so without the support of the federal agency.
A recent survey published by the UK's National Academy of Sciences revealed that traders who had elevated levels of testosterone in the morning had a good chance of putting in a good days work and making some money. Too much testosterone, however, brought on a greater appetite for risk and a general feeling of invincibility.
