1. 'I don't think I've ever met a poor IT contractor! People who work in the City are paid a premium for a reason - the good times are good, but the bad times can be really tough'.
2. 'Contractors complaining about 'short-term views on IT ?' Aren't these the same guys who come in for 6 - 12 months, p.ss on everything in sight, then disappear in a haze of self-satisfaction ?'.
3. 'If an IT contractor is critical for the business, a business case will be made to ensure that he / she is looked after. I assume that your IT contractor reader isn't that critical'.
4. 'Schmuck really rates himself, doesn't he ? A couple of years on the dole will do him good!'.
5. 'I hate to burst your bubble, but you are not irreplaceable. There will always be someone ready to do your job at a slightly lower price'.
6. 'Eh, you're in IT, mate. You have always been paid far too much for simply coming on the trading desk to switch our computers on and off. This is simply a well overdue correction in the market'.
7. 'An 11% pay cut will probably result in a 20% drop-off in the level of productivity'.
8. 'Firms should cut the daily rates for ALL temporary or contract employees - not just those who work in IT. This is victimization'.
9. 'It's squeaky-bum time. Better get used to it - it's gonna get worse'.
10. 'Another moaning IT contractor! What's the bet he only pays 23% tax through his own limited company, get his expenses offset against tax, his VAT back on DIY purchases and avoids paying National Insurance altogether ? My heart goes out to him!'.
11. 'Hardly 'unprecedented times'. I remember in the early 2000s having to take a 20% pay cut (for a 2-year period)'.
12. 'I'd rather take a 10% pay cut than end up being one of the 10% being made redundant!'.
13. 'It's not just 'out of sector' that is looking pretty attractive right now - there's a whole world out there. The UK is becoming a very unattractive place to work for a whole host of reasons. There are other economies still growing, which would welcome skilled IT staff. And most of theses places are safer places in which to live!'.
14. 'The upside is that contracting jobs will come back strong before the permanent job market recovers'.
