Goldman, however, is not impressed. It's lawyers have now sent a 'cease and desist' letter to the website's owners. The letter says that the 'use of the mark 'Goldman Sachs' violates several of Goldman Sachs' intellectual property rights, constitutes an act of trademark infringement, unfair competition and implies a relationship and misrepresents commercial activity and / or an affiliation between you and Goldman Sachs which does not exist, and additionally creates confusion in the marketplace' (Source - Zero Hedge).
And this is not the first time Goldman has had website domain name problems. A few years back, a Dutch entrepreneur established a website called goldmansex.com , which was basically a global directory for 'adult entertainment'. Goldman got that one closed down in double-quick time too. The firm also clamped down when the entrepreneur tried it on again with goldmensex.com!
Finally, in 2003, a two-year-old website, goldmansuchs.com , was closed and replaced by a holding page which said: 'Mission Accomplished', after the owner filed an arbitration claim against the firm. The site was established by an unhappy former Goldman client. An unnamed Goldman spokesperson said at the time: 'We never thought we sucked in the first place!'.
