The Essex-born Kent-based City worker (his firm's Compliance Department isn't keen to be associated with the project and so has asked to be left out of the publicity), is putting his $1.7m home (complete with designer kitchen, games and cinema rooms), a brand new Aston Martin DBS and a Sealine 35 Sport luxury motor boat on the line. And all you have to do to be in with a chance to win the lot (or a $1.6m cash alternative) is to spend £20 (around $32) on a ticket and win a competition.
The trader says that: 'I want another person to live life to the full the way I have, and, with the prizes on offer, the world really would be our winner's oyster. I can't wait to see what a difference it will make. That's all the satisfaction I need'.
Cynics point out, however, that with maximum sales of 200,000 tickets, the trader will rake in a cool $5.6m (after allowing for VAT), and point out that 'the prize will differ in the event of insufficient participation' (in other words, not enough tickets sold = not so big a prize). Some think that the trader may have a house he can't sell, and hopes that this initiative will be a nice way to find a 'buyer' and get some extra cash along the way. But we mustn't tar all bankers with the same brush (surely they can't all be conniving, money-grabbing devils, can they ?), and just maybe this guy is for real.
Anyway, why not check it out yourself ? And who knows, you could soon find yourself living the luxury life of a City trader. For the competition details, please go to:
