Here's something sent in by one of our readers.

As time has passed between then and now,

The trauma has faded, we've moved on somehow.

But everything is marked, measured or gauged,

By 'before' or 'since' or 'after' that date.

9/11 changed from a date to an icon,

A place in time for thousands to die on.

Like D-Day, the Fourth, and December 7th,

Will generations to come mark September 11th ?

In a hundred years, will anyone care ?

Will children recite a solemn prayer ?

Or salute the flag, offer a moment of silence,

For those who passed in that torrent of violence ?

Will they tell the story of the gleaming Towers,

Wherein the flames a demon’s face glowered ?

Will the story prove a prelude to The End ?

Of man’s decline into Hell did that day portend ?

Will they speak of the terror, the horror and pain,

Or just of the cost and who was to blame ?

Of widows and orphans and souls lain to waste,

Or just how sweet the blood of revenge did taste ?

'Once upon a time, in the grandest city of all,

The Mighty Twin Towers were caused to fall

By men blind with hate so deep and so strong,

They could no longer tell their right from a wrong'.

God save America, our children and their own.

For war is the harvest of hate blindly sown.

As memories fade, lessons become lost,

Doomed to repeat is the ultimate cost.

But I, for one, shall choose to remember

That horrific morning, the 11th of September,

For the brave men and women who raced into those Towers.

I am in awe… it was, and remains, their finest hour'.
