The letters, which each contained a threatening note which claimed that the recipient would die within 10 days of inhaling the contents, were later found to be negative for hazardous materials. 47-year-old Richard Goyette, who was angry over JPMorgan's acquisition of Washington Mutual, was later arrested by the FBI, and is now serving out a 46 month jail term for sending out the packages.
Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit is said to have been given a clean bill of health by the independent report commissioned by US regulator The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC), which looked into the competency of the leadership of those at the top in the company. Not so fortunate, however, are thought to be three of Pandit's deputies, who are said to come in for some flack. But such in the sensitivity of the report that Bloomberg TV claims that it has been released in hard-copy form only (no e-mails), and is believed to have been written on paper that cannot be photocopied!
The FDIC, however, is said to be a bit miffed over the generally positive conclusions in the report, and The Wall Street Journal reports that unnamed 'people familiar with the matter' insist that the agency is likely to largely ignore its findings.
Finally, Reuters reports that The Services Employees International Union has sent a letter to US pay czar Ken Feinberg, which asks that efforts be made to stop Bank of America CEO Ken Lewis's exit package and pension 'until the bank stops foreclosures and increases lending'. The letter said that 'the American people are counting on you to reform the reckless culture of Wall Street that allows bank executives to drive our economy into the ground, and walk away with millions'.
