And MarketWatch reports that BlackRock has posted a 46% jump on its third-quarter profit. Net profit came in at $317m.
Bloomberg reports that executives at Bank of America appear to have been aware of the fourth-quarter losses over at Merrill Lynch over a month before the bank went to see regulators to express concerns about consummating the deal. And The Wall Street Journal quotes from an e-mail said to have been sent to BofA CFO Joe Price by CAO Neil Cotty, which enclosed estimates of Merrill's October losses. 'Read and weep', the e-mail said.
Reuters reports that Deutsche Bank has said that it expects to post third-quarter pre-tax profits of some $1.94bn, although the profits will be pumped by tax credits. The bank's shares fell Wednesday, on investor concerns over the quality of bank's underlying earnings.
And Bloomberg reports that Jefferies & Co saw its third-quarter profits come in at $86.3, after a $31.3m loss in the same period last year. Fixed income and commodities trading revenues were strong.
Finally, The New York Times reports that California's attorney general has sued State Street, claiming that the firm has illegally overcharged some of the state's largest pension funds by around $56m. The lawsuit seeks restitution and damages of around $150m.
