Bear Stearns - What The Firm's Staff Are Saying

last updated: 17 March 2008
Spare a thought for the staff over at Bear Stearns this Monday. For most, the events of the last few days will have come as a huge surprise. This writer was on a visit to Bear last week and, although staff recognised that the firm was in trouble, no-one thought that the end was so close

We've already had some comments in from Bear staff. Here's a selection:

1. 'Bear Stearns was a great firm. Although my own future is now uncertain, I am proud to have worked there'.

2. 'It's a sad day. A fine firm with a great tradition has been lost. The many talented staff which make up the firm will quickly find new jobs - no matter how difficult the current market climate is'.

3. 'JPMorgan Chase! It would have to be the only other firm out there which has a tighter rein on costs / expenses than Bear !!'.

4. 'The last bastion for entrepreneurs on Wall Street has now fallen'.

5. 'I used to work for JPMorgan. I wish we had gone bankrupt!'.

6. 'I also worked for both firms - Bear had the better people and the best culture'.

7. 'I meet a Bear Stearns trader on Friday. The obnoxious idiot was bragging that his firm would survive and thrive - and was worth $300bn!!. Some trader'.
