You're Fired! - Such A Bizarre Story, It Must Be True
Apparently Citi runs a bus shuttle service between various of its locations around New York City. And one poor support staff employee who worked in a Citi office in Warren, New Jersey, recently got fired for lateness - despite the fact that he travelled to work on the company bus!
So the guy is told that he was being terminated, and heads back to his desk to retrieve his personal belongings. But no, his boss bars the way and says that he must leave immediately. The staffer insists that he is entitled to get his personal stuff. The boss is unrelenting. A ruckus follows. The boss allegedly gets the employee in a 'chokehold' and 'drops him to the floor'. Then someone calls the cops, who take statements and escort the fired staffer out of the building - after, of course, letting him take his belongings.
And it all ends so predictably - Citi and the employee's boss are now both apparently being sued. Only in America.
Finally, The Times reports the sad case of Bernie Madoff victim Morton Chalek, who is quoted, saying: 'I am 86 years old. I have a broken knee. I have lung cancer and, thanks to Madoff, I am now bankrupt'. Morton's nickname ? 'Lucky!'.
