Dell is investigating how it came to be that one of its laptops burst in to flames at a conference in Japan.
The incident was caught on camera and reported by The Inquirer. The hardware giant, talking to Computer Weekly, said it would be “inappropriate to speculate about the circumstances” that led to the dramatic event while the investigation was in progress.

Back in December Dell issued a recall on 22,000 laptop batteries after reports of similar explosions by customers. At the time they cited an overheating issue with potential to pose a fire risk, no mention was made of explosions! They did highlight the fact that there were three known incidents where there were no personal injuries but that there had been damage to furniture and personal effects. Dell's recall program can be found at

In this case a few missing rubber feet, an overheating battery and a flammable table cloth may have been to blame.
