A Brazilian court has ordered YouTube to be closed down after the popular video sharing site failed to uphold a previous ruling to remove videos of Brazilian soccer ace Ronaldo's ex-wife, Daniela Cicarelli, and banker Renato Malzoni Filho, engaging in a bit of overly heavy petting on a beach, reports Reuters.
The case, originally brought by Miss Cicarelli, a model, and Mr Filho, a Merrill Lynch banker, had been dragging on for months after they originally demanded the videos of them, apparently engaged in a lewd act on a public beach, were removed from YouTube and they receive $116,000 in damages for each day it remained up.
YouTube seemed to have initially complied and removed the offending posts only for them to resurface again as users reposted the video.
A third suit then followed in December leading to the closure ruling. Legal experts suggest that the ruling will be difficult for the Brazilian courts to enforce as Google is based in the US.
When the video surfaced back in September it was being viewed so many times that it is said to have crashed computers on trading floors in both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. At the time a spokesperson for Merrill said that the firm 'doesn't comment on the personal lives of its employees, especially when they are on vacation'.
