On The Web - SearchMash, Poetry

Google has a secondary search site that all in all is pretty slick, and some enterprising Brits have launched a poetry download site.
The Google search site, called SearchMash, has been created to enable the internet giant to test new interface methods without the Google brand interfering with the feedback. It's a very pared down interface, mostly white and blue, but it's very snappy, has some nice new features and most importantly returns Google results.
It took a while to figure out why it looked so simplistic but it's because there's none of the sponsored ad links. Whether this is a good thing probably depends on personal preference but it certainly allows you to concentrate on the quality of the organic links.
Of the new interface additions probably the best is the paging technology. instead of reloading the whole page when you want to view the next set of results it merely adds the new results on to the current page. By the end of it you end up with a very long page but it enables you to easily and quickly track back.
Other features include the ability to reorder the search results, an options menu if you click the url link and it displays the top 3 image search results as well as the website results.
British company 57 Productions has launched a new website where users can download and listen to poetry on their iPods. Currently there are about 1,000 readings available with each audio poem costing 50p. Registration is required with the first trial month free. iPoems includes exclusive and rare recordings by the likes of Christopher Logue, Liz Lochhead and Kamau Brathwaite.
